In a significant stride towards providing comfort and care to the elderly, the Augustinian Sisters Servants of Jesus and Mary inaugurated their much-anticipated retirement home, Sorriso Nest – “Smiling Nest,” on May 31, 2024. The facility, designed to cater to the needs of senior citizens seeking a peaceful and supportive environment, was blessed by Rev. Msgr. Mathew Elanjimattam, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Verapoly.
Sorriso Nest, overlooking River Periyar (the longest river in Kerala) is a dream project of the Augustinian Sisters, aimed at offering a sanctuary for the elderly to spend their twilight years in comfort and dignity. The inauguration ceremony was a heart-warming event, attended by the clergy, well-wishers, and community members, marking the beginnings of a new chapter, for the care of the elderly.
During the blessing ceremony, Rev. Msgr. Mathew Elanjimattam, emphasized the importance of empowering initiatives in this fast-paced world. “Sorriso Nest stands as a beacon of hope and compassion, reflecting the values of care and respect for our elders. It is a testimony to the dedication of the Augustinian Sisters and their commitment to serve the community”, he said.
The home has modern amenities, including a private or shared accommodation, a well-equipped medical center, recreational areas, and beautifully landscaped gardens.
The Sisters have meticulously planned the space to ensure that it meets the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of its residents. Additionally, Sorriso Nest offers short-stay options for those who need temporary care and necessary service.
Sr. Mary Biji ASSJM Superior of the Indian Delegation, expressed her gratitude to all who supported the project. “Sorriso Nest is more than just a retirement home; it is a community where our elderly can find joy, companionship, and purpose. We are thankful to everyone who help to make this vision a reality,” she said.
